Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta Welcomes New Board Members

ATLANTA, GA – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta proudly welcomes three accomplished professionals to its Board of Directors. Carly Garrett, Charlton Barker, and Alton “AJ” Brooks Jr. join the board as the organization expands its efforts to support young people through mentorship.

Carly Garrett is a Technology Assurance Managing Director in KPMG’s Audit practice in Atlanta, with more than 20 years of IT audit and leadership experience. She specializes in helping clients assess the risks of using technology in financial processes. She resides in Kennesaw, Georgia, with her husband, Scott, and their two children, Caroline and Crawford.

Carly serves as Events Chair and Secretary on the KPMG Network of Women Atlanta Leadership Council. A long-time BBBSMA supporter, she has led fundraising efforts for the organization and is active in the community as a Girl Scout troop leader and volunteer with Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Charlton Barker is a senior technology leader with over 22 years of experience in the IT sector. Throughout his career at Southern Company, Charlton has provided thought leadership across multiple technology functions, aligning with the company’s values, business drivers, and strategic goals. He specializes in developing strategy, designing organizations for sustained delivery, infusing innovation into technical teams, and leading large-scale technology implementations. Charlton resides in the Metro Atlanta area with his wife and two children and is actively involved in community, church, and youth mentoring initiatives.

He is an active member of IRSMF, American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE), and Technology Association of Georgia (TAG). He is a former volunteer high school basketball coach in Atlanta Public Schools and Junior Achievement participant.

Alton “AJ” Brooks, Jr. is a highly accomplished administrative health care professional with over 15 years of experience in operational and patient care-centric leadership. Alton is the Chief Operating Officer for City of Hope Cancer Center Atlanta. Brooks enjoys spending time with his wife, Ashley, and two sons, Alton III and Aiden; as well as golfing, traveling, and connecting with his family and friends.

He is an active member of NAHSE, ACHE, and Georgia Healthcare Executives Association. Named to both the Atlanta Business Chronicle and Georgia Trend’s 40 Under 40 lists, AJ remains a committed mentor and civic leader in Cobb County and beyond. He serves as a R.E.A.C.H. Georgia mentor and previously chaired the Cobb Chamber’s Young Professionals Committee and the Board of the Center for Family Resources .
