We have numerous anniversaries to celebrate in the first quarter of 2013! Over 70 Bigs and Littles are celebrating their anniversaries as matches in the months of January, February and March. Thank you to our wonderful Bigs and Littles for enriching our mission: to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported, one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

I first met Mike in 1997 when we were matched through the Big Brothers program in Atlanta.  He was nine years old at the time—a quiet kid with a big smile, a curious mind, and an interest in sports.  I was impressed right way with his intelligence.

Opportunity to Be the Difference

I went to say goodbye to my “Little” today and I must say, it took a lot not to break down and cry. Mentoring a child has been very fulfilling and truly rewarding. I remember when I first met Grecia and she asked me to spell every word and could hardly read. As a 4th grader, I knew she needed to make progress really fast!

When I was in high school, I was a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. The program was only during the school year and I could only meet with my Little Sister during school hours. After our time together during the summer, she moved away.

He offers so much

In May 2000 when Kevin came into my life as my Little Brother paired through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, I expected an opportunity to teach this young man a thing or two about life, love, friendship and culture.  While he is an outstanding student, improving each and every year I’ve known him, he is a better teacher…to me.
