Atlanta Mayor Dickens and Local Luminaries Champion Mentorship for Local Youth
ATLANTA – Recently, The Gathering Spot ATL hosted a networking event and panel discussion – “Black Men and the Power of Mentorship.” The event focused on the crucial role of empowerment in transforming the communities of metro Atlanta. The event drew over 100 attendees, all united by a shared commitment to making a positive impact.
Prominent Black male leaders, including Kwame Johnson, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, addressed critical issues surrounding mentorship for Atlanta’s youth. The event centered around a dynamic panel discussion featuring distinguished community voices. The prominent Black leaders featured in the panel included: Alfred Brooks (APS Board), Rodney Bullard (The Same House), Joe Pierce (AMB Sports & Entertainment), and Ryan Wilson (The Gathering Spot). The discussion was driven by a shared commitment to inspire the next generation of leaders in greater Atlanta.
The Game Changers Award was presented at the event, honoring men who have made significant contributions to the Metro Atlanta area and have raised awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta. These individuals exemplify the true spirit of being a Game Changer in the lives of young people through their dedication and advocacy. This year, five distinguished community leaders were recognized: Steve Bradshaw (Dekalb County Commissioner, District 4), Greg Clay (Executive Director of Constituent Services, City of Atlanta), Jason Esteves (GA State Senator, District 6), Diriki Geuka (Associate at Townsend & Lockett, LLC), and Fonseca Woodruff (Entrepreneur and Big Brother).
The Black Men and the Power of Mentorship event not only celebrated the achievements of these remarkable leaders but also reinforced the collective commitment to building a brighter future for the youth that the agency serves.
