Steven N. Cayton is an attorney, mediator, and Guardian ad Litem in Metro Atlanta. Owner and Principal of Cayton Legal LLC, He has been practicing family law since 2010, with a focus on high conflict custody matters, adoption, and assisted reproduction.

Steven has a long history of service and volunteer activism – a testament to his dedication and profound compassion.  He has served on several non-profit boards relating to civil rights and community improvement, including the Human Rights Campaign and the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF), and has served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Steven was an award recipient of both the AVLF Making a Difference Award (2011) and the All-Star Guardian Ad Litem Volunteer of the Year Award (2025).

Steven is an alum of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, a Founding Member of MENtors giving circle, and is the 2023 Next Generation Legacy Award recipient. Outside of work and volunteering, Steven enjoys family time with his husband, son, and dog.

He credits his Big Brother and mentor Brad for the stability and care that allowed him to survive and thrive as a young person. “The work that I do today is healing. A lot of that comes from Brad and from seeing somebody devote his whole life to me for no reason other than he saw that somebody needed it.” When asked about his own volunteer work, Steven offered, “Volunteering has many benefits. From the learning experience to the emotional rewards of helping those in need… it really is food for the soul.”
