Celebrating Seniors From a Distance with the 2020 Virtual Graduation Celebration

By Amari Woods

This year’s Graduation Celebration was one to remember. We honored 42 graduates virtually for the first time ever.

This event was designed to commemorate graduating seniors and their completion of our program. It’s also a way to acknowledge the positive impact of our program on Bigs and Littles alike as we strive to ignite the potential of our youth.

The celebration began with a sincere welcome from Board Member Richard Makerson. As the event progressed, it featured heartfelt stories from senior matches, a musical selection by Little Brother Delonta and congratulatory messages from honorary Bigs. Additionally, Dr. Sultan Simms, Behavioral Health Medical Director of WellCare Health Plans of Georgia, gave a motivational speech to grads. Toward the end of the event, President & CEO Kwame Johnson presented scholarship recipients and closing remarks. Congratulations to the three $1,000 WellCare Scholarship winners – Maritza Cruz, Tristan Autry and Amaya Davis.

Although this marks the end for our Littles in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, we are sure that the bond between our Matches will continue on. Certainly, our graduates will utilize knowledge from this program in their future endeavors.

We would like to thank our sponsor WellCare Health Plans of Georgia for making a $10,000 donation in support our organization and providing scholarships to three high school seniors. With this, we will continue to defend potential as we clear a path for children to succeed.
